Local Guide 005: AAPI-Owned Businesses in NYC

It’s Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, and as an AAPI‑owned business ourselves located in NYC, we wanted to shout out a few businesses owned by friends and family that identify as AAPI. We hope to add to the list and see this guide grow so check it out and share!

1. 886

886 is a neon‑lit, compact East Village space known for its modern Taiwanese specialties & on‑tap sake. There’s even a take on the McDonald’s fried chicken sandwich in Taiwan.

2. Di and Di

Sister to An Choi in the Lower East Side (now closed), Di and Di is a hip neighborhood Vietnamese restaurant in Greenpoint is a popular destination for modern and traditional cuisine as well as tropical vibes and lots of greenery.

3. Double Chicken Please

Founded by two Taiwanese cocktail vets, this newly opened brick‑and‑mortar bar used to be a traveling cocktail bar. With six drinks on tap and soon a multi‑course menu, this is a necessary stop in the Lower East Side.

4. Fish Cheeks

Probably the best Thai restaurant we’ve ever been to. You may need to allow a little time to wait to be seated, but trust us, the Crab Curry is well worth it. The staff is also super friendly.

5. Madhuffala: Green Planet Organic

One of the best hole‑in‑the‑wall spots in NYC that our physical therapists and coaches love to hit the recharge button at. With fresh juices, smoothies and soups to‑go, what more could you want?

6. Nom Wah

This vintage dim sum parlor first opened in 1920 and was known as the first of its kind in NYC. Located on Doyers St, drop in for traditional Chinese in an iconic part of Chinatown.

7. Reload Health & Performance

Reload PT has been hosting great kettlebell classes and educational courses. Located in the old Performix Gym in Union Square, drop in for your physical therapy and training needs.

8. Physiostrength

Check out our friend Clinton at this one‑on‑one physical therapy and sports rehabilitation clinic in Williamsburg. Located right in the Squats and Science gym.

9. Wildair

Wildair is usually serving simple food & natural wine made by the most amazing people, but they are currently serving incredibly creative pastries. For example ‑ we just got the delicious Hamburger Donut.

As a proud AAPI-Owned physical therapy and personal training business in NYC, we're excited to recommend some of our favorite fellow AAPI-owned organizations across NYC. Check them out and let us know what you think!
