YOUR SHOULDER PAIN DESERVES MORE THAN A COOKIE-CUTTER APPROACH

You're not looking for quick fixes or generic exercises you could find on YouTube. You need someone who understands how your shoulder pain affects your training, your work, and your life in NYC. Without proper treatment, shoulder dysfunction leads to compensations that affect your entire movement pattern—turning one problem into many.

Overhead Training Is Limited by Pain

Whether it's pressing, pulling, or reaching overhead, sharp pain stops you from training at full capacity.

Your Mobility Has Been Compromised

Stiffness and restricted range of motion make everyday movements—from carrying groceries to reaching for the subway pole—frustrating and painful.

You're Tired of Temporary Relief

Rest helps for a few days, but as soon as you return to activity, the pain comes back. You need a real solution, not another Band-Aid.
MOTIVNY physical therapist demonstrating shoulder mobility exercise with athlete in SoHo NYC studio

MOTIVNY was built on the belief that you deserve better than the traditional PT mill. Our Doctors of Physical Therapy, Luke Greenberg and David Jou, bring years of experience working with professional and recreational athletes to deliver individualized care that actually works.

We're hands-on for the entire session, combining manual therapy, movement training, and expert guidance to help you build strength, maximize mobility, and enhance your athletic lifestyle.

✓ One-on-one sessions focused entirely on your goals—no assistants, no distractions, just expert care.

✓ Manual therapy techniques that address tissue restrictions, improve joint mobility, and reduce pain at the source.

✓ Movement-based training designed to restore proper biomechanics and build resilience against future injury.

"Jess is amazing. I had a hip arthroscopy and, not knowing much about physical therapy, I went through two different PTs without seeing any real progress in my recovery. Luckily, a friend recommended Jess at Motiv, and that's when things finally started to improve. She's incredibly knowledgeable and tailors the program to your specific needs—unlike other PTs who just hand you a generic set of exercises. Don't waste your time elsewhere—go to Motiv right away."

How MOTIVNY Works: From Injury to Performance

We don't just treat symptoms—we build athletes for the long term. Here's how we do it.

Step 1: Understand the Whole Athlete

We start by understanding your story—not just your shoulder, but your lifestyle, your training, your goals. Our comprehensive assessment identifies the root cause of your pain and how it connects to your movement patterns. We're not looking for quick fixes; we're looking for real solutions.

Step 2: Address the Root Cause

Through meticulous manual therapy, soft tissue techniques, and individually tailored exercises, we address the dysfunction at its source. You'll learn how your body moves, what's causing the breakdown, and how to build better patterns. We're hands-on and fully engaged throughout your entire session.

Step 3: Build Long-Term Resilience

Our goal isn't just to get you pain-free—it's to help you move better than you did before. We integrate your progress into your training, whether that's lifting, running, climbing, or navigating city life. You'll leave with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to maintain your athletic lifestyle for the long term.

Athlete performing shoulder strengthening exercise during physical therapy session at MOTIVNY in NYC

"Best in NYC! They've been immersed in the running community long enough to have a great understanding of what's needed from all of the runners within it. From physical therapy, strength-training, injury prevention & rehabilitation — they take incredible care with our precious muscles and give incredible care to our momentous bodies. Plus, their studio is immaculate and around the corner from Upside Pizza. You simply cannot beat some strength followed by some slices 🍕"

"I cannot speak more highly of MOTIVNY and the team David and Luke have put together. This is not your traditional physical therapy practice (just look at the photos, it's a private gym / personal trainer set up). These guys take a full body, holistic approach to rehabilitation and then go a step further to optimize athletic performance and prevention of re-injury. I worked with David to rehab a double herniated disk and have come out the other side not only fully recovered but also stronger and with the knowledge necessary to avoid injuries in the future."

“I'm almost reluctant to share how amazing Tyler is because I'm worried I'll never get an appointment with him again! But if you're looking for a knowledgeable, attentive physical therapist who genuinely cares about helping you achieve your goals, don't hesitate to book with Tyler at MOTIVNY. You won't regret it.”

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes MOTIVNY different from traditional physical therapy?

We're not a PT mill. At MOTIVNY, you work one-on-one with a Doctor of Physical Therapy for your entire session—no assistants, no distractions. Our founders, Luke and David, built MOTIVNY because they were tired of the cookie-cutter approach that treats symptoms instead of understanding the whole athlete. We combine manual therapy, movement training, and expert coaching to address the root cause of your pain, not just mask it temporarily.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes, we accept insurance for physical therapy sessions. Sessions with Director and Founder-level therapists may carry additional fees. For specific questions about rates, availability, and insurance coverage, email us at connect@motivny.com or call (212) 226-0400.

How long are sessions?

Our one-on-one physical therapy sessions are hands-on for the entire appointment. Session length varies based on your treatment plan, but you can expect comprehensive care that addresses your specific needs without rushing through exercises.

How many sessions will I need for shoulder pain?

Every athlete is different. During your initial assessment, we'll evaluate your shoulder, understand your goals, and provide a clear treatment plan. Most shoulder conditions improve significantly within 8-12 sessions, but we'll adjust based on your progress and what your body needs.

Can I continue training while receiving treatment?

Absolutely. We don't believe in shutting down your training—we believe in smart modifications. We'll work with you to adjust your workouts, maintain your fitness, and integrate your rehab into your training so you can keep progressing toward your goals.

Do you offer group classes or community programming?

Yes! In addition to one-on-one PT, we offer in-studio group classes (Kinstretch, Mixed Modes), recovery services (infrared sauna, Normatec boots), and MOTIVNY Outdoors community events—completely free runs and training sessions throughout NYC. We believe in building community, not just treating individuals.
